Sealants

Sealants are thin, protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of molars, premolars, and teeth with deep grooves (pits and fissures). Over 75% of cavities begin in these hard-to-clean grooves. Sealants create a smooth surface, protecting teeth from decay.
Sealants can last for years but should be checked regularly for wear or chipping during dental visits.

Who Can Benefit from Sealants:

  • Children & Teens: Ideal for six-year molars and other cavity-prone years (ages 6–16).
  • Adults: For teeth with deep grooves and no decay.
  • Baby Teeth: Sometimes recommended for cavity-prone children with deep grooves.

What to Expect During the Procedure:

  1. Teeth are cleaned and kept dry with cotton.
  2. A special solution is applied to help the sealant bond.
  3. Teeth are rinsed, dried, and the sealant is painted on.
  4. The sealant hardens automatically or with a curing light.

Good oral care, a balanced diet, and regular dental checkups will help extend the life of your sealants.
